SDA Tennis Access spoke at the Encinitas City Council meeting, following the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting the night before. The conversation is now where it needs to be: with the City and the school district looking at a practical path to public access.
The practical next step
The request is for the City to identify the appropriate staff member to evaluate whether a joint-use arrangement with SDUHSD could make the San Dieguito Academy courts available during appropriate non-school hours.
SDUHSD has indicated a willingness to discuss a joint-use agreement. A City staff review can evaluate access, operations, maintenance, liability, cost, and scheduling before any decision about a pilot or funding is made.
The courts are already there. The agreement models already exist. Now the City and SDUHSD can determine whether there is a workable way to expand recreation access while keeping school use first.
