Campaign update

Positive momentum is building.

There are many positive things to report.

Updates

  • I talked with a school leader for 45 minutes. There is a lot of interest in making this happen!
  • I was invited to give public comment at the SDUHSD school board meeting. I did that, feedback was positive, and I am told SDA Tennis Access will be added to the agenda for an upcoming meeting.
  • I am continuing to post videos to the Instagram feed. It is particularly dramatic to show the empty courts in the summer because they are empty all day. It is a really sad waste of resources.
  • I am also updating sdatennisaccess.org with the court videos and campaign notes.

Next steps

  • The goal is to build enough engaged community support for a visible demonstration that increases awareness. If you know anyone at Coast News, Encinitas Advocate, or another local outlet, please let me know.
  • I need to re-engage with City Parks and Recreation. If you have contacts at Encinitas Parks and Recreation, please reach out.
  • I am also figuring out the best way to engage city leadership. The courts are school district property, but the models we have found in other cities are partnerships between a city and a school district. That is the direction we are going.

How you can participate

  • Would you be willing to film a short video at the San Dieguito Academy public school tennis courts like I have been doing? We can post it to the main channel. Other people's stories would help increase visibility and variety.
  • Please engage with the Nextdoor post if you can: https://nextdoor.com/p/7-7PmShNTJKG

We are providing solutions, not problems. The agreement examples already exist. Now we need enough community support to help the City of Encinitas and SDUHSD make this happen.
